ABOUT THE ARTIST

Robert Amrhein’s lifelong passion for drawing began in his childhood and has remained with him throughout his career. He has consistently stayed connected to the art community, with his life revolving around a large white canvas, oil paint, and an imagination deeply rooted in French Impressionism.

His background in architecture bestowed him with a precise, hard-edge technique. Bold blocks of color meticulously divide each section. In contrast, loose plein-air strokes take a front seat when the mood strikes, creating a dynamic interplay. As he settles into retirement, you’ll see a harmonious combination of both styles.

During his travels through Europe in the 1980s and 90’s, Robert had the opportunity to explore the art-filled cities and visit the former haunts of his favorite artists, including Renoir, Degas, and Van Gogh. Toulouse-Lautrec inspired him to blend his talents, blurring the lines between fine art and advertising. Robert enjoyed a long and successful career in advertising, where he applied his graphic design skills.

Robert’s work features the stunning coastal landscapes of California, particularly Carmel-by-the-Sea, which captured his heart and welcomed him in to the galleries where they displayed his art in the 90’s. He also fell in love with the colorful shapes of Italy’s Amalfi Coast and the winter lines of the Midwest with its striking contrast of black tree branches against crisp blue cloudy skies. His affection for animals is evident in his portfolio, showcasing the range of his artistic mastery.

Today, you will find Robert in his cozy art studio in Pinole California, sipping coffee and leisurely filling his white canvases with vivid memories of travel, blended with his colorful perspective on the world of Amrhein Art.
